Nick Clegg with Rosie
I have lived in Woking for over 30 years and have worked in the NHS locally for over 20 years as well as being a councillor for Goldsworth Park for 20 years. I have a passion for Woking and its residents and believes that my long experience will be of benefit to the community. I am well known for having a raw enthusiasm for campaigning with a reputation for not letting go.
Cllr Ian Johnson, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the Council said
“We are delighted that Rosie is our Parliamentary Spokesperson and look forward to continuing working with her for the benefit of Woking people”.
Rosemary McCrum, Constituency Chair of the Woking Liberal Democrats said:
“Rosie’s experience will add to and complement the Liberal Democrat successes already achieved locally. She has a strong reputation of getting things done with a common sense approach.
Rosie is adamant that a new parliament requires a new type of politics and believes only the Liberal Democrats will deliver this. Following the disgraceful expenses scandal Rosie has made the following pledges to the people of Woking:
- I will publish in detail all expenses reclaimed in the pursuit of my parliamentary duties
- I will be a full time MP and will never accept any paid directorships
- I will never seek to profit from the MPs’ second home allowance
- I will always put the interests of local people above my own or my Party’s
- I will continue to live in Woking, among the community I serve
- I will serve all my constituents, regardless of their politics
- I will not employ any members of my family
- I will act with honesty, integrity, openness and candour at all times
- I will tell people my real views, even when I know they will disagree with me
Rosie believes that the Lib Dems are the only party that really believes in fairness and firmly backs the party’s 4 pillars going into the forthcoming General Election: fair taxes; a fair start for every child; fair, clean and local politics; and a fair, green economy with jobs that last.

would love to vote for you rosie (long time labour voter) but i cant see any of your policies, my personal view is that interms of government a lib dem one would be great. However, a vote for anmp is a highly personal thing and im struggling to what you actually belive in. please dont point me to your stance on the nhs (as really and decent human being should be in favor of making every hospital palaces to health and not cutting them), the the speed kills is standard political guff, what is it you belive in what are those deep seated idiological views that you have(and if that includes the nhs then do mention)
and get yourself on question time as a local rep and please if your on there and a question is yes or no let the others waffle and then just say yes or no
Your pledges are a ‘bit wooly’ for me. My key concern is the 2nd home allowance.
The MP for Woking should not get any 2nd home allowance. Woking- Westminster is commutable.
Its 25 minutes to waterloo and 5 minutes on the tube to westminster. Even if parliament sits until midnight (rare) one can be home in less than an hour. This would win my vote. Otherwise, sadly not. It’s an easy question for one to answer. Please answer this Rosie!
Hi Simon and thanks for taking the time to comment!
As a local resident in Goldsworth Park in Woking, I would not be claiming a second home allowance if I were to be elected. I agree with you in that we have a prerfectly acceptable transport service to get us to and from London and there is no need for a second home when there is a direct route as we have. There are more than enough ways one can get home after a late night in parliament when we live to close to London.
Rosie
Rosie makes and ecellent point. The outgoing MP for Woking Humfrey Malins was guilty of expenses fiddling in that he let his children live in his 2nd home in London whilst remaining for the most part in his house in Dorking!
Two things strike me about this. ONE, he was as bad as all the other expenses fiddlers even though his amounts were not huge. TWO, living in Dorking a number of miles away does not mean you are local and on the ground with regards to local issues. I believe that Rosie has both of these qualities. She lives and works locally and has already committed to not charging expenses in the way others have and will remain living locally in her constituency.
She gets my vote.
Rosie
You have my vote purely on enthusiasm and effort. You seem the only candidate to really make an effort to capture our imagination and our vote. Please do not let me down as i am a long term labour supporter and have found it hard to switch aliegence
David
Thanks for all the lovely message of support – I will do my best to reply personally over the next day or so.
Rosie
Dear Rosie,
Every week I see young men, no older than my own son, being brought home severely wounded and dead from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Yesterday I watched the wikileaks “collateral murder” video posted on youtube. (If you haven’t already seen it, I urge you to take 40 minutes to do so.)
Yet, there wasn’t even a box to tick on the “Women’s Survey” that you sent me to indicate that war might be a “National Concern” . I’m disappointed.
Rosie, I must congratulate you as a diehard conservative inherited from both my father and my grandfather I am now starting to question a simple belief that may be so many other people should also question, the leaflet that recently dropped through my door which I must add would normally have gone straight into the bin! Caught my attention and I certainly would not tolerate a candidate who does not live in our area and as you have clearly pointed out is only interested in furthering their political career through taking on this constituency.
I have lived in the area for over 20 years, have worked extremely hard and am proud to say self-made, in the last 10 years I have paid the revenue several million in taxes and have founded extremely successful businesses, the current business I operate is now in the educational sector changing the way our children eat… during my time in business I have been lucky enough to work with some extremely talented people both young and mature and I’m always looking for ways to better and improve their own standard of living, recently I wanted to put forward a proposal to my team that would effectively reward them to the success of this business and enhance their own prosperity, and the absolutely ridiculous situation arose where every time I proposed an enhancement to them my HR Director and finance manager were able to point out all of the negatives because of the current tax regime, I find it absolutely ludicrous when you’re trying to build a local business employing local people and create wealth where your employees don’t see the benefit… my company has gone from employing 12 people to over 500 people in less than two years and I need a government and certainly a local MP who believes in success and wants to reward and recognise the individual to create that.
What I would like to hear from you Rosie is what you going to do not only the people of your constituency at the business people who remain committed to your constituency?
I wish you all the luck in the forthcoming elections and after the Enlightenment of your mail drop you now have 5 new votes.
Hi Derick
Your’s is just the kind of comment that we are hearing all over the borough and I know that Rosie is very grateful to people such as yourselves for the faith and committment that you are showing the LibDems in the forthcoming election.
I hope you dont mind, but i have copied and pasted your comments into an email just to make sure that Rosie does indeed get your comment and can reply personally to you. She is busy pounding the streets at the moment as you can imagine but I know that she will come back to you as soon as she gets a chance.
Thanks again from another LibDem supporter in Woking!
Lisa
