End Surrey Police budget cuts and make a safer Surrey

Chris Huhne, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh recently commented on the declining numbers of Police Officers across most forces in the UK “This is a worrying sign of what is to come as budgets are cut and numbers fall in over half of all police forces. Instead of squandering billions on ID cards, the Government should concentrate on getting more police officers out on the beat. The Liberal Democrats are the only party committed to increasing police numbers of every area of the country. It is time for the other parties to come clean about their plans.”

Once again, Surrey Police were hit hard by a budget cap for 2009/10 which resulted in the Chief Constable cutting 35 operational police officer and 15 operational staff posts. This is in addition to the 144 staff posts already making a total of 194 posts no longer available to the force to make the people of Surrey safer and win the fight against antisocial behaviour. Over 50% of Surrey Police’s finding comes from the tax payer with less and less from national government.

I fully support the Liberal Democrats plan to increase the numbers of police on the beat. How else, can we ensure that Woking and Surrey remain one of the safest places to live in the UK? For too long the Government has held Surrey Police to ransom with unreasonable demands on spending meaning that front line services have been cut to the bone. With your help at the next general election, I can stand up in Westminster and fight to get Surrey Police the funding they deserve.

Vote for me at the forthcoming General Election and help Surrey Police continue “Working to make Surrey Safer”.
